Interior Trim & Molding Repair/Replacement

Quality Interior Trim & Molding Services You Can Count On
Look around your home for a second. Chances are, there’s baseboards pulling away from the wall somewhere, or crown molding with gaps you could slide a credit card through. Maybe the door casings are dinged up from years of moving furniture, or the chair rail in the dining room has seen better days. These things happen. Homes settle, wood shifts, people live.
We work with homeowners throughout Fairfax, Chantilly, Centreville, Oakton, Vienna, and other parts of Virginia who want their trim to look like it did when the house was new, or better yet, like it should have looked in the first place. There’s a difference between slapping up some baseboards and actually fitting them properly, caulking the seams so they disappear, and getting the miters tight enough that you can’t tell where one piece ends and another begins.
The trim in your home does more work than you think. It covers gaps, protects wall corners from getting banged up, frames doorways and windows, and if we’re being honest, it’s one of the first things people notice when they walk into a room. When it looks rough, the whole space feels a little off. When it’s done right, everything just clicks.

Common Trim & Molding Problems We Fix
Most trim issues fall into a few categories. Sometimes it’s damage from everyday life, like baseboards that got kicked in or door frames that took a hit when someone was hauling in a couch. Other times, it’s age. Wood dries out, paint cracks, and joints open up. And occasionally, you’re dealing with trim that was never installed correctly to begin with.
- Warped or split baseboards: This usually happens when moisture gets into the wood or when cheaper materials were used initially. We replace them with properly primed and sealed trim that won't do the same thing in five years.
- Gaps in crown molding: Houses settle, especially in Virginia, where we get real temperature swings. Those gaps aren't your fault, but they do need fixing. We recut and reinstall sections so the joints are tight again.
- Damaged door and window casings: High-traffic areas take a beating. We match the existing profile or upgrade to something more durable if that makes sense for your home.
- Missing or outdated chair rails and wainscoting: Maybe the previous owner took it out, or maybe it was never there. Either way, we can add it or restore what's left.
- Poorly finished or painted trim: Sometimes the problem isn't the wood, it's the finish. We strip, sand, prime, and paint or stain trim so it actually looks like part of the room.

Materials We Work With
Not all trim is created equal. We’ve installed enough of it to know what holds up and what doesn’t.
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is affordable and takes paint really well. It’s a solid choice for painted baseboards and casings, especially if you’re working within a tighter budget. The downside is that it doesn’t handle moisture great, so we don’t recommend it in bathrooms or anywhere that gets damp regularly.
Solid wood, usually pine or poplar, is the traditional option. It’s more expensive than MDF but you can stain it if you want a natural wood look, and it’s more durable over time. We use it a lot for crown molding and in homes where the existing trim is wood and needs to match.
PVC or composite trim is becoming more popular, especially in moisture-prone areas. It won’t rot, warp, or swell, and it holds up really well. It costs a bit more upfront but can save you headaches down the line.
We’ll talk through the pros and cons of each based on your specific project and what makes sense for your home and budget.
