Stucco Repair & Repainting

Why Stucco Repair and Repainting Actually Matter
Stucco is tough. It’s been the go-to for exterior surfaces for decades because it holds up, it looks clean, and it doesn’t ask for much. But even the best stucco exterior takes a beating over time. Hairline cracks appear. Moisture finds its way in. That fresh finish from ten years ago starts looking worn and faded.
EG Contracting Services handles both stucco repair and repainting because you really can’t do one without the other if you want it to last. We’re licensed, bonded, and insured, which matters more with stucco than people realize. This isn’t vinyl siding. You’re dealing with your home’s structure, moisture barriers, and a material that needs specific knowledge to work with correctly.

Types of Stucco Damage We Fix
- Cracks and Structural Issues: From hairline cracks to larger structural cracks that indicate foundation movement or settling. We determine the cause, repair it properly, and make sure it doesn't come back.
- Moisture and Water Damage: Water intrusion behind stucco walls leads to rot, mold, and structural damage. We identify moisture problems, repair the damage, and seal everything correctly to prevent future issues.
- Surface Imperfections and Discoloration: Stains, discoloration, uneven texture from bad patch jobs, or just years of wear. We smooth it out, match your texture, and give you a uniform finish.
- Loose or Damaged Stucco: Sections that have separated from the wall, areas that sound hollow when you tap them, or stucco that's crumbling. We remove the damaged material, apply fresh stucco mix, and texture it to match.

| Structural issues | Address the foundation first | May be needed after foundation repair |

Common Questions About Stucco Repair and Repainting
Depends on the extent of the damage and the type of stucco mix we use. New stucco needs to cure completely before painting, which typically means 7-14 days in good weather. We don’t rush this. If you paint too early, moisture gets trapped, the paint fails, and you’re back where you started. For small patching jobs, we can sometimes move faster, but we’ll never compromise the quality of the repair just to speed up the timeline.
Not if you want it to last. The crack will keep growing, water will still get in behind the paint, and within a year you’ll see the crack again, plus new damage from moisture that’s been sitting behind your stucco walls. We repair cracks first, properly, then paint. That’s the only way to get a long-lasting finish that actually protects your home.
Different kinds of things. Your house settles over time, especially in the first few years after construction. Temperature changes cause expansion and contraction. Moisture gets behind the stucco and weakens the bond. Poor installation or mixing the stucco incorrectly from the start. Sometimes it’s just age, stucco doesn’t last forever without maintenance. We figure out what’s causing your specific cracks because that determines how we fix them.
In Virginia’s climate, figure every 8-12 years for a quality paint job. That assumes you used good masonry paint and proper prep work. If you’re seeing peeling, fading, or the surface looks chalky when you touch it, it’s time. Direct sunlight exposure, local weather conditions, and how well the house was prepped last time all affect how long the paint lasts. Some stucco homes in dry climates go longer, but here in Virginia with the humidity and temperature swings, 10 years is realistic.
